Gita Sankano is an experienced attorney whose practice focuses on affordable housing law, real estate finance, and community development. Throughout her career, she has advised lenders, government agencies, and housing organizations on sophisticated financing transactions designed to expand access to affordable housing while strengthening communities. Originally from Harlem, New York, and raised in the Bronx, Gita earned both her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Master of Public Administration from CUNY John Jay College before receiving her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Maryland School of Law. She graduated in the top 20 percent of her class while earning numerous academic honors and leadership positions. Today, Gita represents the District of Columbia Department of Housing and Community Development on complex affordable housing finance transactions involving layered financing structures, Low-Income Housing Tax Credits, tax-exempt bonds, and public-private partnerships. Her work reflects a commitment to creating long-term housing opportunities while helping communities grow through thoughtful legal counsel and public service.
